If you've ever sailed or traveled to 'The Cape' (Cape Cod), Martha's Vineyard, Nantucket or Block Island, then you've probably eaten some pretty delicious oysters. From Chatham's Impudent Oyster to Wellfleet's Shellfish Co. to Harwich Port's 'The Port' to Hyannis Port's Naked Oyster Bistro & Raw Bar, or Spanky's Clam Shack & Seaside Saloon, or perhaps you fancy a little revelry with your shellfish and have visited Trader Ed's for some clams on the half, with a cold brew - there are so many island atmospheres and flavors in the New England region to satisfy your itch for oysters or clams on the half shell with minced onion vinaigrette or the traditional horseradish cocktail sauce, Tabasco & lemon. Whether you prefer large or small, briny, buttery or metallic, there is something for everyone in these North Atlantic seaside ports.
Today's featured oyster atmosphere, however, goes to a farm on Cuttyhunk Island, and the oysters are delicious!
Cuttyhunk Oysters start with 1 inch seeds purchased from Fishers Island and are grown in a remote area of Buzzards Bay where the Elizabeth Islands meet Martha's Vineyard Sound. These beauties come from a small family operation and are grown using traditional Japanese lantern nets suspended in the water column.
